Knights Cross - Good or Bad

Hello Gents,

I have been away for a while.
I found this piece localy and would like to know if it is any good. Medals are not my era of expertise and counting on some honest reviews.
My camera is a little out of date but it might just do the job.

Trying to learn here Dietrich. It is very easy to say its bad, but can you point out what is wrong with this piece ?

Actually it is not that easy. It requires a lot of study of the genuine articles in order to determine that neither the cross nor the Swords are genuine.

The short answer is this: They are not identical to known originals.

The long answer is: Study the seven known makers of the Knights Cross and the two original versions of the Swords. Everything that does not fall under that category is at best a non-licensed version or (in most cases) a fake.

To point out what is wrong with this set would take several pages. You can use the search function of this forum to study the originals.

Okay, I understand.
Obviously it is not a lousy or real bad fake. Might I discribe it as a museum quality reproduction ? What would the value be at this moment ?

I'm always amused with the term 'museum quality reproduction'.
A good museum serves the genuine pieces in my eyes
I have seen worser reproductions but still just fake.
Like Dietrich said, study the originals.

No, it is a lousy fake, sorry. The L/26 (Klein & Quenzer) is completely wrong, no such thing. The Sword set is also not even close to an Type 1.

But if you mean by "Museum Quality" that it might serve as a visual representation for the casual observer it might pass as such. There are a lot of fakes in museums for that purpose, even in Berlin of all places.

For me there is no good or bad fake, they are all not originals.

All crosses we define as fake are lousy. That's what seperates them from originals.
I only meant, that if your looking for a repro set for a uniform, it's not that bad.
I see other pieces of crap floating on the net.

Yes, I fully understand.
But we have to agree we have the 2$ fakes and we have the high quality once... I take this must be a higher quality one.
To be open, i'm not trying turning a fake in to a nearly original , I try to figure out that the market for such piece will be and so value wise.
