    Battle of Staraja: Deschler EKII

    Hi everyone,

I picked this one up, the newspaper clipping was with the packet and EKII. It was a family purchase, I picked it up from Klaus Butschek. I thought that it was interesting with a little bit of history and looked legitimate.

Its Deschler made Iron Cross 2nd Class in Deschler & Sohn marked bag of issue. The cross is unmarked, I guess its right? Thoughts?

Help? The "punch holes" I did a little research; all I got was that they are punched for files? Does this mean that the recipient might have been KIA? The the packet was filed away and sent to family? I have no idea any help would be great.

    Thanks,

    Ryan

These EK's are getting more and more addicting!

maybe be in a folder that was stitched down because I've seen
Donors and the papers had such holes

      the cross is made Deschler

The punch holes are certainly related to filing, and they could have been done by the recipient or the family. These holes are quite common on award documents and I have seen them on other things like packets such as this. So, he could have been killed or wounded and his packet and EK stashed away, and he could have been killed or wounded at a later time, unrelated to the fighting at Staraja Russa. Because guys didn't wear their EK2s, you will find that they were often filed away at home, away from the front. No award document?

          Thanks for the responses,

Unfortunately there was no documentation......I really need to get a nice "complete" EK set one day...official paper work...those are quite interesting. The punch hole statement explains a lot, thanks for putting that into perspective.

Also, I have to pick up the "bible" for EK's you recently published. I have heard many positive remarks about it! Congratulations, that's quite an accomplishment. I am glad someone with your knowledge (as well as others) can weigh in on different subject matters here on WAF.

          Appreciated,

          Ryan
