    Opinions please!

I got this as part of a payment for some items I sold in Germany I thought I'd ask the bloke If he had anything from WWII & he said he had his Grandfathers EKII from WWI, so we done a deal to knock some £'s of his payment (around £40).

It has the makers mark 'WS' on the ring which I believe is for Walter Schott?
& I checked the Core & it is magnetic, if being magnetic means that my magnet sticks to it? Or am I being dumb

I am new to collecting & still have a lot to learn so any help along the way will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance guys & girls

      Unbelievable. I wouldn't sell my great grandfather's EK2 for $100,000.
      Best regards,

          I know me either!

I actually just spoke to him again & I read the E-mail wrong it was his Grandfathers, father, so his 'Great' Grandfathers EK II!
And it was his Grandfather that fought in WWII (which makes more sense)
So I'm guessing he never met him & probably doesn't have any interest in the wars! But I would think his Great Grandfathers spirit is non to pleased..

Is there different types of WWI EK's (other than makers I mean) like I've read on here about the WWII EK's being type.14 or type .11 ect?

I'm glad to know it's definitely original Because I did wonder if (It's my great grandfathers) was just a clever way of "selling" a fake lol

          Thanks guys

Definitely get the great grandfather's name and keep it on a piece of paper together with the EK2. Also ask for any documents from him (award document, Militärpaß, etc.).

As for your other questions about types, you are in the wrong forum. Re-post in Imperial and you'll get some answers, or just read some of that forum.

              Its

              Its a original... Dont worry

A Good quality maker, but not rare.
Iron cross II class 1914 where awarded in millions.
Some variants can be rare, as some silver content marked ones
The price of 40 gbp is alright but not cheap.

              But a nice wonderful cross

If you can have the holders name
and where he served would ad something
              I agree.

His name was 'Josef Hübsch' from 'cologne' & he was a private in a Flak Kp other than that there is not much more the family, Great grand son or his mother, really know. Like so many from the Great War & WWII, on all sides, they never really spoke about it once they got home, as you probably already know.

And to be honest who could blame them there must of been an awful lot of survivors guilt.

But I believe that's more than enough to be chuffed about.

After nearly 100 years knowing it came directly from Germany from the family of the original recipient.

I appreciate the input guys, Thanks

Just need to look for a nice EK I to go with
