    Interesting ek1 variant

    hi guys,

what do you think about these ek variant, both are original, one with needle and the other one with a two- piece screwback.

both crosses are 3 piece constructions and measure about 42,9mm.

some time ago detlev niemann sold the same screwback variant as a "schinkel" cross for 400€

we do know several schinkel variants, some are 3 piece constructions some are made of one piece, some appear with the early meybauer needle but i have never seen this variant declared as a schinkel.

what is your opinion, would you say this cross is a schinkel?

        Hi Stefan,

I would say that judging by the shape alone it is somewhere in between a Schinkel and a "true" 1939 EK shape. It is certainly early, so I can see why somebody would put it rather into the "Schinkel" category than the regular one.
        Cheers, Frank

I wouldn't describe it (the top piece) as 'Schinkel' type either....although the date, without the serifs, is VERY like the 'A' type, while the degree of curvature in the arms is probably closer to 'B' type - which may or may not exist in 1st class form...

Not Schinkel though.....unless the collective use of the term 'Schinkel' is broader in the wider collecting community than that which we use here on WA forum.

          Nice piece Stefan....

            thanks for your opinions,

i also wouldn't call this type as the typical "schinkel"....

              never seen before

              Hello all,

I have never seen anything like this. The construction quality isn't that good IMO, are these even considered real, are there many out there? Please let me know either way. Thanks.
