    My EK1 L/13's enamel

These two pictures are my EK1 L/13's back enamel. My friend and I used crystal microscope to take pictures of the enamel in the lab. These pictures can help us to distinguish some FAKE EK.

    WOW! How cool is that.

    You gotta love science.

Very interesting. How would that work with an original cross that has been repainted?

Ya..I like science...I'm studying Mechanical Graduate school. The fact is...enamel is not the paint..it's a kind of ore..a low melting temperature ore. So, the iron core was baked at certain temperature to let the enamel cover the iron core uniformly. When enamel get solid, we can see its crystal (solidification). Thus, the black enamel will show some difference between FAKE EK2 or EK1 (process is not cheap. I don't think fakers will put money in this process).

          Indy,

Respectfully that's not conclusive enough for original EKs where the cores may have been painted and not enamaled. Also it wouldn't hold true if an original cross was repainted in an effort to restore it at some time. A better course would be to learn the characteristics of original EKs and compare with known examples as we do here. Not all EK cores were enamalled.

          Just some thoughts.

            Thanks Tony

That's new to me. I have 2 EK1 and 4 EK2 and all of them are enamel covered. I didn't get any painted EK. Thanks for that information.

            best regards
