Ben ..... the 2 UB variants I had shown some time ago . I was very fortunate to obtain from another good hearted member here one of these cracked die corner variants for study purpose .
With out a doubt we have for now - 2 - different production dies - copied from the same design master . Does ONE manufacturer need 2 production dies at the same time ?
Pictures of both types : .... different frame material , paint and core .

                      Hi Douglas,
Do not You take into account that this is the same frame from the same die (look at selected reproducible stenosis in any UB cross - photo). IMO flaw external angle may be due to consumption die frame, with the passage of time ...

                      Regards

Jarek : The areas you show are features copied of the master onto each working die ... there after each production die develop their own independent flaws .

Douglas: I understand that the manufacturer of each new die, repeated mistakes of the previous matrix? Sorry, I do not agree with this - IMO they are the same dies

I think I see where the stumbling block is .
In the production of a working die .... there are - as described in the Deschler book and also by Carl Wild .... certain production stages/steps in the production of both working die halves .
At first glance it appears strange and is quit labor intensive . The master - according to Deschler - can produce 'about' 5 positive working die top halves .
The master - which is a negative die half only - is not used in the actual production of cross frames . Another bottom die is made by using the finished and hardened top die half .
Each time the hardened master is used it takes quit a beading and starts to deteriorate . That is why it can only be used about 5 times or so before having to be replaced .
So we have flaws coming/transferring from the master , and flaws that may or may not develop on each individual working die separately and progress fast or slow .
In this case the corner chip and the corner crack flaw develop on 2 separate working dies .
I hope this explains it better .
