German Cross in Gold in cloth interesting

Ok guys so I took a little gamble on this one, well more like an educated guess. I like everything about it and find it odd that it doesn't have a date on it. This came from the same source I have been getting some good stuff from in Germany as of late. It came from a house clearing in Germany and overall I really like the details. I would like to hear some opinions on it as its certainly not a large production piece, I'm guessing tailor made but I really like it.

It's not doing anything for me...Unlikely a recipient would need to have one "private tailored" as there was already a cloth version with metal wreath..IMO

Will move it to the crosses forum.

          Glenn,

Thanks for your comment. Its different for sure and i figured id take a risk and pick it up. Lets see what others say, i mean why would anyone have a cloth EK 1 made? But it did happen. Matt

These versions with an embroidered wreath do exist, actually...

But they are very hard to judge, just like some ek's in cloth.....

You don't find it odd that the date was left out?

Very interesting cross. Several components of the cross appear to be made from period materials. A great deal of craftsmanship went into making this piece. Real or not, very well made. I have learned over the years that anything is possible. Many non standard pieces have be seen and proved to be original. Sometimes if the price is right, it is worth a leap of faith.
                    Regards,
                    John

                      Glenn,

that was one of the things that made me buy it, a faker would not have left out something so obvious, or I wouldn't think they would. I like the piece more in hand even then in the photos. I can't verify the story and as always buy the item not the story but I do like it quite a bit in hand. I have never owned a DKIG in cloth but this one is pretty cool. Would love to hear some more opinions. Matt

I'm sorry but IMO this is an embellished version of the most common type of reasonable looking copy cloth dk. The tight embroidery on the grey starburst is very distinctive to this type of fake. True bullion DK's do exist and the quality is pretty exceptional.

The field grey backing looks a bit odd to me as well.

                            Patrick,

Can you post a photo of a repro so we have one for comparison? Matt

Looking at the starburst I like it more than this one (http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...46607#poststop) which also lacks the date. On the other hand, I like the wreath on the linked version better than the subject piece.

That said, were the price right, I would've taken a chance on it myself.

                              Rick
