    The paperclip on the ribbon. Do you think it could be original to the cross ? Interesting.

      My neighbor said the paperclip was on the item when he purchased it. He's had it about 25+ years, purchased it for a couple of dollars at a flea market in the 70's.

      The clip is quite rusted (salty) and the corrosion has almost "eaten" thru the clip in 2 spots. Hard to say if it's original, but it's old.
      Don't believe everything you read on the internet, that's how WWI got started.
