My research on the net shows Paulus to be the General involved with the surrender of Stalingrad. Could this be the same person and would this effect the value of the certificate(If it is real!!!!)
Thanks
Andy
this was signed by Karl Paulus, it is a different guy. Stalingrad Friedrich Paulus was in the same division but not in the 1st Regt. He was Regimentsadjutant for a short while n the 2nd regt.

Thanks for the response. I am a collector of British Pre 1920 Medals and Regimental cap badges. I also collect Polish WW2 groups, my interest in this being that my late Grandad was a Pole, wounded at Monte Casino and sent to the UK to recover. He gave me his medals and related paperwork many years ago and this started my collecting. During my years of collecting, I have unfortunately come across some good and some not so good fakes, especially of the Victorian era medals and badges. Upon inspecting this German collection and by making reference to the books also left to me, I have arrived at the conclusion that some of the rarer pieces are copies. I specifically refer to the Knights Cross, Blue Max and possibly the German Cross. The knights cross is a heavy non-magnetic single piece unmarked construction. The Blue max looks like it was possibly made in the last few years(New and shiny) and the German Cross in my opinion does not show the quality referred to in the reference books I have read. It has four rivets to the back and quite a broad pin marked with a 1 but the catch and hinge look cheap. To be honest, the fact that there are copies in the collection does not concern me. I have not paid for this collection and am very very grateful for what I have. I would like to weed out the copies and form a good collection of original items and to this effect I request your help and the help of your fellow experts who use this forum. I do believe that quite a few if not most of the Iron crosses and other medals are possibly genuine and with a bit of luck this will also apply to some of the war badges and cloth items etc. I have trouble posting decent close up pictures with my camera as by using macro the size is too much. I have purchased a scanner today and hopefully this will help to post good pics. Sorry to waffle on, I will get on with posting pictures of the items individually and hopefully start separating the good from the bad. <o></o>

Andy

FYI, nice collection...some do raise the antenae for being possible repros but most may be fine.
However, if it was me , and I was unsure, I'd definitely want to see what's original. Man ... there's a ton of medals there and even if 1/2 are real deals ... there's a huge $$$$ on display.

congrats again!Unless it was nighttime, or the weather was bad, and you were running out of gas - then it was a sweaty nightmare, like a monkey f*ing a skunk.

congrats again!
Yes I will take your advise and start new threads with individual items. It could take quite a time but we will get there in the end. Is anyone able to advise me how to resize a picture taken with my digital camera to comply with the posting sizes. The trouble is that to get a good picture I need to use the macro and this picture setting is too high.
Thanks in anticipation
