1st pattern Boerger Eagle, Larger Hinge plate????

    Hi all

Here is what I found ....
I have searched with Maerz's book and WAF, but can't found this kind of large hinge like this, the hinge has larger triangle part which can be seen from the obverse (Between wings and head), see red arrow pointed.

is this a normal case that happened from Boerger's hardware, or simply a replaced plate?

    thanks in advance!

    plate

This plate is okay, I have one and it is cut to match the head/shoulder area. I have seen it only on the first model. Jim

Here is another Boerger with smaller hinge plate from member Patrick W.
this is the same example from Maerz's book, but how about my previous post?
      is the larger one exist?

        spange

Eric, I believe they are all the same size, it was up to the person who attached as to how they cut the excess off. Jim

Maybe out of context but I have also seen this hinge/pin set up on other items made by different makers. Could it be generic hardware produced/sold by a third party and purchased/adapted by various makers (including Boerger) ?

Attached are 2 Schlesiger Adler I Klass using what looks to me like the same hinge set up. The first is an enamelled version with blasted rivets on which the hinge plate is cut out to match the head outline like in Jim's example and the 2nd one (from a different maker) is a tombac specimen with the hinge used in a similar way to Eric's EK I spange

This hardware is also seen on post WWI early WW II iron crosses if I remember correctly

Plate is not replaced, sometimes these Boerger spanges have nicely cut ones, sometimes they don't! Very nice clasp!
              Kind regards,
              Giel
