          Hello Peter,

I think that but I dont know if Steinhauer & Luck were the only maker of EKI 1957

          cordial greetings

Deumer, K&Q and Otto Schickle made crosses as well. S&L and Deumer are the most common makers of the 1957 Iron Crosses.

            Cheers.

                Hi Humberto

Excuse the delay, but I have been very busy lately finalising a big project!!!

How thick is the cross? About 1 or 2 mm?

Your ek1 has the characteristics of a 1957 S&L, as Peter suggested.

It would appear to be an earlier rather than later S&L '57 EK1. Sometime in the 80's or early 90's they changed the frame die and you'll find the dot on the flange of the 12 o'clock arm where the EK2 ribbon ring loop is attached to.

                  Here's a weird '57 EK1 - a schinkel style...

But there is a dot on the cross from HVC.

                    Cheers.

                        My mistake.

I only really looked at the 12 o'clock arm which is where I've seen it on most (if not all) of the later type I've owned over the years. I'd say it was made sometimes during the past 15 or so years. The earlier ones the frames made out of a nicer looking material (the later stuff is called "staybright" or something similar???) and whilst nice and shiny looks very "cheap". The quality of the paint on HVC's is certainly better than the crap they've been using these past half dozen or so years which is almost gloss and very thick!

(That '57 "schinkel" EK1 is my favourite EK1 in my collection - it is 3 piece and wafer thin with a brass core!!!)

This is my 1999 direct from S&L EK1...
