EK2 LUG variant mm "Z"

I found with great difficulty a piece marked "Z" LUG variant
the condition not best,but I'm glad this is
What do you think about it ?

interesting that i found already lot of LUG variant
and all piece had very good condition but mm Z this piece however,
terrible

same is the case with mm24 type the unmared and yet the mm24 very nice condition however the double mm24 with O, X ect.

The "lug" variant is not hard to find.

Even with the "Z" mark it is also not so rare.

But with the "Z" mark not on the soldered seam of the ribbon ring? Never seen it before. The "Z" mark is always over the seam (see below). This one offers us a great opportunity to really see this mark. Such a crisp, clear mark.

Also, this cross dispels an idea I used to have that the "Z" mark could be simply a mark made by a tool used to hold the seam together during soldering.

Seems to me that the serifs on the ends of the letter are designed to distinguish it from an "N" mark; we are meant to have no doubt it's a "Z." That makes me suspect this cross could be a very early one, before PKZ markings were introduced.

The most obvious suspect is Zehn, famous makers of Imperial decorations. But I haven't done a lot of research into Zehn. Were they even around in 1939? Then there is the Paul Küst connection (one found in a Packet marked for Küst). Could this be the mark of Küst? I don't see how.

Overall a very interesting cross and a worthy addition to our continuing study of this type.

As for the crosses LUG Variant signed "Z", IMO we have today 3 types of such crosses:
1/ LUG Variant signed "Z" - core type 1
2/ LUG Variant signed "Z" - core type 2
3/ cross so called Junker's long flaw signed "Z"

In one case I do not agree with Trevor
Through my hands for a few years had passed (directly or in the pictures) a few thousand crosses EK2-1939, among these crosses were only about 10 crosses LUG signed "Z". It is not much, and IMO it is uncommon cross

The 1st cross shown here has a lot of die flaws on the frame contrary to the 2nd one. Is that normal for a wartime cross ?

IMO LUG variant mm Z not easy found ,but the cross not rare
