    Hermann Wernstein Jena-Lobstedt Packet & EK2 - Asistance Needed

    Hello:

Just picked this piece up recently and was hoping to get some assistance with this packet and cross. First, I have only seen the larger size packets so when I saw this size of packet - 6.3 x 9.5 cm (2.5”x 3.75”) I was curious to know if this size was rare?

The packet is marked Hermann Wernstein Jena-Lobstedt but there is no maker mark (#5) on the cross. Was this a common practice by manufactures or was this cross just married up with this packet?

I conducted a search for pics of a Hermann Wernstein Jena-Lobstedt EK2 with no results. Does anyone have a HW they could share with me?

    Thanks,
    John

        Hi Marcus:

Thanks for the reply! Your knowledge of packets, boxes and cases never cease to amaze me.

Hey, what ever happen to your quest for a packet & box forum? I notice that a Model Section has been added so maybe a packet forum is in the que .

        Best,
        John

          Hey John,

Nice. Never seen one of these and the condition is also excellent.

Have you compared the cross to a 100? Hard to tell from the photo, but it kinda looks like one to me.

I have a "5" marked Hermann Wernstein. Though I am far from an expert on EK manufacturers, I believe this to be one of the rarer EK2's. I welcome the opinions of those with more expertise than mine.

What are your thoughts regarding the second cross which I posted. Unlike the above unmarked cross, which you liken to a "100," this one is actually marked as a "5." That is the MM for HW and it is the only EK2 with this MM I have seen. Does anyone else have one?

                  Regards,
                  Brad

                    Hi Brad,

As you can see this is an old thread, but in the months since this posting your cross is still the only one that I have seen with this mark "5".

My cross has the characteristics attributed to Rudolf Wachhtler & Lange (100)

                    Best,
                    John

Yours is the first EK2 mm5 that I have seen!

                        Thanks for the feedback.

Anyone else out there have a "5" EK2 or any further thoughts regarding its rarity?

I think it is a reproduction from Floch you have there.

                          Sorry.

                            Peter,

I certainly would welcome any detailed information you could offer regarding what leads you to that conclusion? Perhaps you could provide some photos for comparison.

                            Thanks,
                            Brad

                              Hello.
Compare with this one. A reproduction from Floch. It has the same frames as the EK1 from Floch.
