Its not a cross of the Wehrmacht so it should be down in Imperial.

The core looks like a AWS 3rd type core. The reverse hardware
is not AWS. IMO, it's a repaired AWS or a modern Frankenstein.

... and the paint has been touched up along the way too.

It's my cross and I beg to the differ.

The paint is flawless, not a repaint. There is no trace of any other pin setup. Perfectly patinated(pictures are too bright compared to reality.).

The reason I suggested a repair, is that if it is indeed a AWS made cross,
their typical screwbacks have a female threaded barrel on the cross and
the male post on the backing plate.

Yours has a male post on the cross itself. My thought is that the original
female threaded part was broken off, or the threads stripped out. The
piece was then replaced with the one seen. The wide base of the one
on your cross would cover and remains of the original piece.

Below is an example of a AWS cross with the more typical screwback
setup that shows what I am trying to describe.

Off coarse---this is all on the assumption that this is an AWS cross.
I can not be 100% sure that it is. Trevor might be able to help out
here as he has a lot of experience with Imperial AWS Eks.

Greg, you have a point and it could very well be so.
