    3/4 ring RK

    Hello !

I would like to get some opinions about that RK.
    Thanks
    Mark

Looks like the real deal to me, but difficult for me to say if the core paint is 100% original. Lack of patina and some wear on the high points, along the beading, point to previous cleaning --possibly recent. Rare Cross, no matter the outcome on the core paint. A close-up 3/4 angle along the inside would reveal more.

Seems to be a spot of rust on the swaz where the paint has been been worn off under the beading corner 9-12. If it was repainted it was done a while ago. I'd be ready to say that the black in the beading is the remains of the patina that's been cleaned off. A pity about the ding in the top of the flange, but it doesn't detract from the cross.

And my point to you, Mark, would be to ask/get a 3/4 close-up of the inside. However, I don't like what I see on the inner edges of the frame, which looks like excess paint and not patina. Again, a 3/4 close-up of the inner core would reveal that.

I made my assessment before blowing this image up, so you go from there...

My guess is – but photos are always only photos, and nothing beats IRL! – that the cross has been cleaned, the black paint vanished, and the cross was repainted.
                  Original and very rare cross!
Here are a couple of photos of my old one. Don´t have it anymore, but better pictures can be found in both Williamson´s and Maerz books (if I remember correctly).

Also note that the cross has been at that page for a while. And, I guess, for a reason. The best thing is if you could get it on approval.

That Cross wont come cheap, and condition etc. will be a factor on price. Would you want to pay full value on something "messed with", regardless of rarity? And no documents/provenance? No different than collecting the "small stuff" --only on a larger scale. Better have a handle on price, if you want to make your money back. Otherwise your jumpin' out of a plane with no parachute, or your just in it "for fun". I can hear the gerbils movin' already.

                            Just ask for more pics.
Paint on RK is very nice and if we compare it with other 3/4 RK's seems to be identical.
                            Now we have two options:

                            1. Original period RK 3/4 ring with cleaned silver frame
                            Or
                            2. Professional repainted iron core and polished silver frame

But in both options color is identical.
