Spanish Cross in silver with swords
For what I see it doesn't look good. The reason is that no badges made of Silver, bronze, nickel silver, or tombak in the early years had plates on the c-catches or hinge and then attached to the badge.
Third Reich awards in 1943 that changed to Zink had to add plates to hinges and catches because of the zink alloy. The ripples on the sword handles on the back of your Spanish Cross looks like what you would see on a 835 hallmarked piece but the sword handles are to fat. The Swastika in the center of the disk has legs that are to thin. Its very tempting to buy things at first glance but take time and remember what to look for on an Original piece and how different makers made their products.
Hope this helps

Spanish Cross { more information } !!!
CrisS 5917,
I see by the number of post you have you are new to collecting. The Spanish Cross is very expensive for a lot of collectors. Its very rare to find but sometimes collectors can be lucky and pick up a good one being at the right place at the right time.
Do not buy any that have a early dip tail eagles as these are reproduction.
The center disk on all ORIGINALS are a separate piece attached.
Looking at the disk you will notice the outer ring and a inner ring that surrounds the swastika.
Take the Cross and hold it sideways you will notice that the inner ring is higher than the outer ring and the swastika is higher than the inner ring.
If you place the Spanish Cross on a table face down the swastika touches the table .
The eagles on a Spanish Cross with swords are soldered at the wing tips and are not soldered to the sword underneath keeping them separate.
Most collectors look for Spanish Crosses that are maker stamped with the company logo together with the silver content stamped 900 if its a silver or gold example. The Bronze examples also carry a company logo if its made in bronze.
Later examples have a L followed by a number that was assigned to the company that produced them. starting at number 11.
I hope this helps all collectors old and new.

He joined WAF September 2010 and got 35 posts, and you joined WAF in January 2010 and have 169 posts...so is it the 134 extra posts that makes you an old collector?
Regarding the German Spanish cross, I do not like the one that started this thread.
