    ek2 to identifiy

    Hello all!

3rd reich awards are not my collection theme but I just decided to invest myself more in this passionate collectible items.

I need help to identify the following ek2 that I have:

I looked at http://ek2-dna.de/ but for me it can match several markers.

I don't understand a lot of things as why some ek2 are unmarked and why the LDO code was not used. For example Klein & Quenzer are the 65 code, but this marker have a LDO form too ( L/26)

I would like to know more about ek2, as finish and alloy used. I know there are the nice Maerz's book for ek1, but I saw nothing about ek2.

I cannot identify the EK from those pics. As for LDO numbers, these were introduced and issued in I think May 1941, so all earlier awards were not marked with the makers identity numbers. There are 2 sets of numbers, one for award items and the other for privately purchased replacements. The difference being that awards manufactured for private purchase had the numbers prefixed by an upper case L/. Not all makers needed both numbers, so while all were supposed to use the issued numbers after 1941, only a few makers also needed the L/ numbers for their private purchase awards. That's how I understand it anyway.

          Hi Spontz
The outer corners of the beading, is a well defined characteristic of this maker. Souvals have a few more characteristics but these corners are easy to identify. Better straight on pics are always better when posting. Makes things easier.
          regards John

Appears to have the dipping 3 as well, but the beading corners are the big give away.

Spontz: Souval has very unique frame outside corners - like 'claws' - quick to reconnaise .
A picture I had on file - owner not know .
