what about the backside?. Is this normally covered with some kind of paper ??

Nice original.
Most of the time they come with backing, sometimes even with a label from the maker.

Cloth crosses are on offer at a number of dealers at the moment starting at a 1000 E and upward, so I wouldn't really be bothered by the fact that there is no backing
It is very well possible the cross left the factory like this, but still the price is very good IMO....

Good to know, already bought it, Sorry about that Voelender. I matched it to several others I know about & didn't check here until now.
I would say the backing was probably taken off when it was sewn on.
