Field made iron cross question

hello,

I have seen the photos of EKII field made in EK section and I two questions:

1 only EKII was made in field or EKI too?
2 these medals were constructed in a single piece? what material were used for it?
I have this doubt because although it is certain that they were done in the field this EKII were even quite good to be done by hand without proper tools.

Check out this example of a EK2 field made into an EK1. The ring was removed & a copper pin & catch added. I had another years ago that had been converted on board ship.
