    EKI Opinions

    Hi all

I picked up this L/59 marked EKI and I believe it has been polished, re-painted, and a clear lacquer applied to it.

    Some areas that raise concern:

    1. No gap between frame and core

    2. Paint or lacquer has 'pooled' below date

    3. Paint visible on frame

    4. Paint not consistent with other Rettenmaier examples I have

I would like some second opinions.

So far the seller has been great and has given his blessing to having this discussed.

        Hi Matt,

as discussed via pm, I thought the lacquer was some sort of zapon, that most awards received during that time. Could you check if the lacquer is uv negative? If it is uv-positive, then it is a clear indication, that it was applied postwar.

Some of the paint appreared to be chipped, so I always thought that this is a sign that the core was rather not repainted.

But as said via pm, I have no problem taking this piece back.

        Kind regards,

        Daniel

          Hi Exile,

can you post a daylight pic of the front?
I'm not to keen on the date, but that may be the refection of the light.

But better pics are necessary to really make a good judgement.

That does give a better impression.
And Daniel may be right on the Zaponlack, it was done to preserve the medals and it looks a bit "odd" after all these years.

I don't have a problem with the ek

Hard to judge from photos only, but from these I agree.

An original cross that has been polished and painted post war ... from what I can see from your pictures .
