    Chris,

Other than several examples being found in Frank & Reif packets, I don't believe any specific maker has been confirmed nor is there a consensus among collectors as to which firm produced the ubergrosse.

    Regards,

Very nice patina on this. They really went to town on the beading corners. I wonder why only three were attacked. I wonder why any were actually as there seems to have been plenty of room for the swaz.

          Yes Tony is right,
Why did you have to cut out some pieces of the frame
when it smoothly fits the Swastica
and one, it does not cut out

          here is mine cross

            Obergrosse

I have three styles of this cross with varying degrees of the corner cut or not cut. Here is one that has not been cut. Jim

The swaz is the perfect fit with no filing required. That's a really nice example.

A really nice UB there Chris . It is the less common cracked corner die variant .
2 working dies exist : the chip corner die and the cracked corner die ! The question I asked myself ... Why does one manufacturer need - 2 - working dies ?? He does not need 2 .
There has to be more than one producer of these crosses which are believed to be a KC proto type . This also would explain why the inside corners are filled out -- in preparation for a larger Swastika core .
It seams a fair quantity of these pre-filed frames were prepaired - struck in silver and Nickel - in advance of some ruling-... and fallowing frames left untouched and assembled as is .
I noticed on the ones I have that the file marks are all horizontal marks ... like they have been - lets say ground down by a rotating slightly conical fine grinding stone being pushed up from the back/bottom ???

I had a request for close ups of the 2 different Übergross working dies individual corner flaws .
