Ribbon bar & lapel minis - EK II bars

Too cold to play outside today up here so I'm trying to ID & organize stuff and I came across these that I would appreciate opinions on

    1) 2 ribbon bar EK II spange minis (2n pattern) with 2 clips on the reverse (showm with a Deumer prinzen for size comparison). Both are unmarked. Top one is 12mm and looks "Deumerish" to me design wise. If it is a Deumer product, are there any other sizes to look for from this maker? Lower one is of a different design and 16mm. It also looks OK but appears to be a bit large for your typical ribbon bar application?

    2) EK II spange lapel pin 1st pattern (scalloped date bar) and, to me, a bit reminiscent of the Boeger design. I've had this one for a long time but most I have seen for sale have no swords (as one would expect) so is this version correct despite the swords? (just considered as "maker's artistic license"?)

    Thanks

Interesting thread JC. I've got a couple mini spangen and had
never even considered trying to determine who made them.

JC, you are right on all counts. I don't know about Deumer but there are 9mm minis. The pin is interesting, can you show the back? Jim

Here is mine. Too me, the 1st class spange looks very BHMayerish.
Round 9s and wide base on the 1. Any thoughts?

Greg, I assume your 2nd class is St & L.

          cheers

            Thanks Peter,
I think you might be right. The "1" has the wide flat base.

Good to hear from you Greg!

Well with the bikes cuddled away for the winter, the wife in bed with a cold and it being -30C outside it was either trying to determine if it was possible to link the mini spangen designs to the makers of full size spangen or figure out how many peanut chuncks Kraft Foods actually put in their "Crunchy Peanut Butter" jars: I chose the former!

Kidding aside, like anything else TR with nice eagles I really like the EK spanges so I figured it would be nice to know if some minis had been linked to full size EK I & EK II full size spangen because some of mine had a familiar look to them.

Your 2 lapel bars are really excellent and both have great detail. I dont have anything as good but while rummaging through that box to take a back picture of the one with crossed swords for Jim I found this Imperial EK L lapel pin in enamel which you might enjoy as an Imperial EK guy

Take care & Seasons Greetings to you & your family

Hi Jim, thanks for getting back to me, much appreciated

I know its like grasping at straws because the minis are so small that the detail isnt that good but some do seem to have similar features to their full size couterparts. It would also make sens that at least some of the full size spange makers made the smaller versions as well

Attached you will find a back picture of the version with swords I showed in my first post as you requested. I also found 2 others bars while going through that box:
                    A) a 9mm bar mounted specimen which confirms what you said. So there are at least 3 sizes minis: (+/-) 9mm, 12mm, and 16mm
                    B) another lapel pin with scalloped date box but without the swords this time (of which I also attached a picture)

                    Regards

                    JC

Just curious----Do you think the swords were meant to represent
the the awarding of the KVK or the Hindenberg cross or possibly
just added as a vanity thing.

I suspect its just a "vanity thing" but I dont know for sure. Somewhat surprizing they (LDO?) would tolerate the addition of swords when none existed for this award since there were other accepted ways of displaying concurrent awards like EK II spange/KVKwS/Hindenburg cross as a bunch of minis welded together on lapel pin or metal mini of prime award superimposed on ribbons of secondary awards for buttonhole application?

Hi JC, I like what I see and I think it is period. I would say the crossed swords represent the Hindenburg cross. Jim

I second JimĀ“s opinion. The LDO was instituted in 1941 and contemporay catalogues illustrate these sword-combinations in several fashions i.e. sword+VB.
                            sword+TD.

                            cheers
