Is the core magnetic ? A Ni-alloy core would not rust either .

Added: The core looks like it was taken out and some spots touched up with paint ?
If it was in the ground for some time .. an iron core would be quit pitted and not smooth as is here !

this one looks an original Souval to me.

The cross at the start of this thread is an original Deumer Schinkel, the other one looks like a non-magnetic souval.
