    Petz & Lorenz Spange question

I'm wondering: did Petz & Lorenz, who made the so-called "Intermediate Spange" (a misnomer, by the way), ever make a 1. Class Spange in tombak? I know reference books say they did, but does anyone actually own one they can put a magnet on to satisfy a nagging question in my head?

Thanks in advance for any help.
    Best regards,
    Streptile

    Yes they did.
I had one a few years ago that had lost almost all of the finish, it was a dark brass color.
Will try to locate the pics...

      Thanks Ben.

I have one in my hands that also shows some "brass" color under the silvering, but it's magnetic. I think it must be steel with a plating? A friend also tested his and it was magnetic also.

      So I'm wondering if anyone has a non-magnetic, non-zinc P&L Spange?
      Best regards,
      Streptile

I have to admit I didn't test it..
But it is very well possible that is is magnetic, although not logical to make it out of steel and coat it then..
BM is better for the dies....

Nickel is also attracting a magnet. And it is softer than steel and easily malleable .

Can anyone post the link here to the P&L intermediate connection? I must have missed this. Thanks
            Kind regards,

Is this what you are referring to?

Your example has veins on wings, but magnetic one doesn't .

Hm, interesting observation. Jim, does your zinc SB have veins on the wings? I can't remember and I'm not home to look at my library.

Sanya, I don't see the buntmetall example. Can you please re-post the photos?

Trevor, neither the zinc PB or SB has veins. Jim
