Hello gents. I have got this german cross which looks like to have got an accident during war. The frame is parted but firmly together. On the backside is tin solder and the rivets are soldered. On the upper frontside of the frame is small bump. I`m thinking the bump/damage are from war and the solder of rivets are made during war. KR Martin

Playing the devils advocate here!
Interesting cross indeed, but how can people say that it is a 100% wartime repair?
I am puzzled, whenever people show a damaged medal/badge, and say that they have a 100% for sure wartime battle damaged item.
Of cource, I know a "battle damaged" item is more interesting, then a "just dropped on the floor by a kid" item.
But how do you determine that it was repaired during the war?

Looks like a disassembly job to me based on the significant lateral metal wear (why will remain an unknown, as will when the repair was undertaken). They likely tried to pry the pieces apart at some point and then tried to file away the rivets in order to make a repair. I’d think however that back then (in the 40’s), people who would be tasked to do this were well trained IMO and therefore it strikes me as an alleyway post war repair. Probably trying to de-naz the cross… As this is only my supposition, I can’t be of any greater value than those of people saying – oh yeh wartime repair…
Cool, better than a repop!
