    DKiG light Zimmermann

    Hi,

I've got this one today, it looks nearly unworn, came with the tunic and the papers from a Kurland fighter.
He is not listed as a DK owner, and the papers do not include an award document about it. Did they gave metal DKs close to end of the war, or just the cloth ones?

And what do you think about the badge itself? It has the typical flaw at 11 o'clock.

The issuing office, the Präsidialkanzlei des Führers in Berlin, gave out only the metal version. A light Zimmermann like this one is a late model. The cloth versions were not given out by the PKZ, they had to be obtained separately.

This cross is original, but it does not look like that of a fighter who survived the Kurland battle.

I know it does not look like, but the tunic does. The group was never in collectors hands, it is stunning. I assume, the DK was gingen very late to him, wasn't worn long time. The EK1 document is dated to mid 44.

                Provenance ...

Unless the Vet himself handed me "un-named items" I would be always leary of items that are supposedly linked to any individual. 99% are fabrications between then and now.

I will try to research his military career, I guess there could have been some DK awards in 45, which were not officially registered...

If they were not officially registered they were not awarded. Contrary to the lower awards such as the EK1 and EK2, the German Cross was approved and issued by the Präsidilakanzlei and not by some Divisional Commander. Regulations are sometimes to key to good or bad provenance.
