    The German Order

    http://ailsby-collection.blogspot.co...3rd-class.html

Please take a look at this article by the now discredited Mr. Ailsby.

I had always thought that the 3rd class were never awarded or manufactured, and that only the 1st class were awarded.

Is the award shown in the first pic really original? I have been looking to purchase a German Order for some time, even though it would have to be a post war version as long as it is a good one. I just thought that all of the pin back versions were copies or fakes.

Of course the German Order pinback was made. I had one, many years ago which was cased and shown in Angolia's medal book on political and civil awards.

It sure is a beauty. The originals are almost unobtainable.

I just linked this thread from the PO forum to another thread here. I'll do the same now. A detailed discussion on them

Detlev Niemann's price guide for 2009/10 puts the First Class @ 35,000 euros and the Third Class @ 15,000. If I had that kind of money I would gladly part with it for one of these.

Anyone know what the Souvals are going for?

Not as much, but they are not cheap as they are rare

I would see these from time to time back in the 70's & 80's......The prices were high then, and I never knew enough about them to take the risk. Tom

Yep, me too. I only ever saw one and have been kicking myself ever since for not buying it.

There are of course plenty of fillers to be had on ioffer and the like. Nothing near as good as the originals or the Souval copies for that matter, but at least one way of getting the eternal "filler". I confess I bought one as the German order is by far my most favourite political medal from the TR era.

Yes, I have spotted one of the Hungarian cased 3rd class fakes on a dealers website like the one shown in the first thread I posted, but it's a poor substitute and I would really like a 1st class repro.

By the way - is that guy really wearing a 3rd class or is that photoshopped. I thought none were awarded.

Don't go to a site for one. These are all supplied by the same Chinese manufacturers and ioffer sellers will supply them much more cheaply than an on line store would.

I have never stopped kicking myself for not buying the 1st Class I saw back in the 70s, even if it was a post war Souval.
