    Need help identifying

    Hi,

Can anyone tell me about this item. I would like to know if it's real and where it comes from. I just picked it up from a market in Ukraine, Lviv.

I read about the year's that this is from a soldier that served in WWI aswell as WWII, is this true?

Sorry, judging from the screw disk and to the best of my knowledge that is a fake... At least the disk is for sure...

Technically, it's "real" in the sense that it exists and you can see/touch/feel it.

BUT - as for original, no. It appears to be a 1-piece casting. It is modeled after a World War 1 EK1 & the repetition bar (spange) of World War 2. It is NOT manufactured during the WW2 period.

The whole thing is worth about 1-2 euros as a paperweight, nothing more.

Looks like someone has been trying out their stamp collection on the disk.

            Ditto,

The spange (badge above the cross) shares no characteristics with an original period spange. Hank is absolutely correct in saying it is a 'copy' of an original, and unfortunately a poor one at that. The same with the Iron Cross.
