Unmarked EK2 with Magnetic Core.. known maker??

    Just picked this up..
is this an identifiable maker? Or unknown?
The core is magnetic.. and the construction doesn't seem quite as good as on my S&L..

    Thanks!

So you can tell because of the die flaw in the beading?

What about the fact it's unmarked?

There are no known real ones like this?

Sorry for the questions... just trying to learn.

      Thanks,
      Brian

        Brian,

Yes, particularly the BAD die flaws in the beading,...and the reproduction core. I used to own one of these and studied it very closely. They (the fakers) have used two maker marks on these (113, and I believe either 62 or 84), but now they are leaving them unmarked and washing a chemical over the frames to give them a fake patina. Very clever. And, yes, the frame halves are reproductions as well.

            Thank you very much Robert...
I have learned a lot about this fake.
It really is amazing in how real it looks.. the patina and everything.

those other fakes have the same goofy yellowish stuff (glue maybe?) coming out from the core and the same flaws.

Comparing this to my S&L the frame itself is more narrow.. as in the pieces of the frame are thinner or something.

I bought it off estand and have sent a message to the seller.

thanks again.. and how can you learn without mistakes?

                Robert,
are there any books you would recommend on EK's?
or is experience the best medicine?

                thanks,
                Brian

For the EKII there is one book being written now in English, it's authors - Dietrich Maerz and George Stimson. For the EKI the same authors have written an excellent book on the subject. It is in English.

The forum's archives have every cross you want to see. Just run a search with such as 'EKII 7' and you'll pull up many hits on this particular cross. The best teacher in my experience is to buy and photograph crosses by different makers and compare details. The major details will imprint into your brain forever.
