EK2 real? and Spange not real

    Hello all,

    First posting,
I have reasearched many threads regarding validity of EK2 and the Spange
I have the Gordon W. book on it's way, (three day rush delivery.)

Here is a picture of the EK2 I have bought (no marker, 3 pieces, magnetic core)...can some some confirm this please?

Also, I have a EK2 spange, (see pics below) it is the one with the L21 mark, and unsymetric wings both by the head,, and tail feathers, reading some of the posts on these, I understand that these are fakes. But it seems that the L/11 version is available @ "good" dealers with these same characteristics??
are the L/11 versions real? are they EK1 spanges?

    Also...

The EK2 is original. Maker: 100 Rudolf Wachtler & Lange Mittweida

    Cheers.

The spange I think is a repro. Look at the difference in size of the voids between the eagle's shoulders, never saw an original with that amount of difference.

Peter is right 100% the EK2 is a W&L maker 100. The Ring may be marked 100 or it may not be marked, either way it is defentiely a Waechtler and Lange.

I know little about spanges so cannot comment.

The Spange is a well known fake.

            Spange is definitely a repro.

Thanks, that is what I thought about the Spange, it's nice to have confermation on the EK2

However, what about EK2 spanges with similar characterisics but marked L/11? are these real?

              thanks

The spange has characteristics of a fake apart from being a known 21 marked repro. One give away is the shape under the wings. One side is not as rounded as the other (marked with arrow). Next is an authentic example to compare, both sides are equal and shaped the same. This is a fast way to detect a good number of ek2 spange fakes.

                  Hello

One question, why is the suspension ring or eye slightly above the EK2? Is this a repair? Or a characteristic specific to this maker? The two EK2s I have, the eye ring is actually attached to the body of the cross itself. Thanks for the info.

Mike, this is a characteristic of this maker. Perfectly normal and in fact I'd be worried if htis cross claimed to be a W&L and did not have the little nub.

As for your crosses not having the "nub" not to worry many makers didn't have the nub, but this particular maker did. Hope that helps,

                    -Shane

Several EK2 producers use a hump on top of the frame, not only maker 100.

                      Cheers.
