    L/59 Ek 1 how rare ?

    Hi ,

I,ve seen a L/59 EK1 for sale , it also has 3 small dots in a triangle shape on the back , trouble is the pin is snapped off the hinge and hook are still there . It is up for £100 and is in average to good condition .

    Worth snagging ?

I dont think that L/59 EK1 are actually rare, and they are known for having these odd little proof marks (for lack of a better description). You will probably find that some off these marks are more or less common than others, but I havent seen any direct relation to value and these marks..

    with one exception ....

the ones with the tiny little swastika mark are not only very rare but very desired by collectors, possibly for the same reason.

      Mark,

Would those little marks be something akin to our "inspected by #34" tags you sometimes find in clothes? Craftsman marks?

      Thanks,
      Marc

        Marc,

Yes, it has been speculated that the marks in addition to the LDO designations are some kind of inspector's marks.

Otherwise, what Mark S. said is right on. (I really want one of the ones with the little swaz!)

Grant, I think that is a decision you will have to make on your own. To some, damaged badges have no appeal, and yet to others they are every bit as collectible as complete examples. As such, it is hard to establish if a damaged badge is actually worth the asking price, except to the buyer.

My personal opinion is that upgrading is a losing battle.
