My first German Cross in Gold came in today!!

Yes Sir! Also I find it funny how you said "light" considering these medals are pretty "heavy."

The 'heavy' Zimmermann has the catch soldered directly to the backplate, no catchplate like yours. Maybe the hinge is the same way. I'll have to do a search and see; It's been awhile.

No, the hinge on the 'heavy' Zimmermann has an integral base plate as part of the hinge. The plate appears small on the 'heavy' version. A simple search will reveal this.

The backplate of the 'light' Zimmermann's were made of cupal and needed extra soldering area. The 'heavy' Zimmermann had a tombak backplate and the catch could be soldered directly to the backplate without a catchplate.
