Yes, a fake. I've never seen such a bad ribbon. It's been 'whip-stitched' on the edges. You want a ribbon that has 'loops' on both edges to begin with, then the stitch count needs to be within guidelines to be original. They've been hitting the estand recently.

Thanks guys. It came with a fake one ( apparently a very bad one as it is worse than this one) but this one did not react to UV. I have a small bit of one I do believe is real, but I will scan to confirm it here, so I can use as a template for what I need to look for.
        Thanks again!

The first thing you can do with your good piece of ribbon is take a strand of it from the ribbon and give it the burn test. When you expose the strand to an open flame it will burn fast and clean. Synthetic (modern) ribbon will 'ball up' before igniting into a flame.

            Thanks,
I am familiar with the burn test, but I didn't buy it yet, so i didn't want to light it on fire.
I had a guy once pull a thread from the center of a LAH bevo cufftitle I sent him. tore it right in half. Then he didn't want it...

All you need for a burn test, Jerry, is a single strand taken from the end of the ribbon. You'll not harm the ribbon in any way by taking a strand from it in this area.
