      Hi Ross,

I was also there on an auction in Germany where one of these spanges sat in its original cardboard case. The lot was untouched and came directtly from the family. The case was makermarked Eugen Schmidhäussler, which was most likley the maker of this beautiful early spange.
      Kind regards,
      Giel

I would give anything to have a marked case for one of these clasps. By any chance did you get a photo of the clasp and case with the name on it? Probably not or you would have posted a photo of it...

Thanks for feedback and info on this Giel and Robert.

It is now going to a new home where it will be appreciated for its beauty and quality as it was with me.

I got it in 1980 from an old school honest dealer Malcolm Bowers from M&T Militaria in Carlisle England. He used to go over to Belgium a lot and find some really nice stuff and send out a small paper catalogue airmail to people around the world. I was probably his most distant customer so it was a mater of getting to him first to get things. I also got my recently sold FJ breast eagle off him.

This will be on its way to its new home today.

I used to buy from Malcolm in years past as well; many iron crosses. Also a man named Mark Samson from the UK. Mark sold me my first iron cross.

I'll be looking forward to the spange's arrival.
