    EKII Ribbon

What do you think of this ribbon? I have a feeling that it is fake. It is 29cm long, 30cm wide, and has 13 rows per cm. Thanks for your help. Jim

    Hi Jim,

I think you mean 30mm wide. Compare the edges. If they're both looped the same, and don't glow under a blacklight you have a good ribbon. The photo looks a little bright like it was taken under a scanner. Am I right?

Why dont you like it? Does it feel strange?

Judging from the pics it looks ok to me, 13 per cm is fine. But to be sure I would have to have it in my hand.
Have you done the burn test? If it passes that then I would have no problem with it.

        Jim,

The burn test involves pulling a strand from the end of the ribbon and exposing the strand to an open flame. If it burns clean it's OK. If it balls up it's synthetic and is no good.

Thanks for your help. It does pass the burn and black lite test. My concern was the number of rows per inch as I thought it was supposed to be 10 and it came in a known fake package. Again thank you for your help. Jim

I always count per 3 cm for more accuracy.
39 per 3 cm is a little low but I have good ribbons all between 38 to 50. I also have fake ribbons who have up to 45, so like all tests its not conclusive, its just a little help on the way.

A negative blacklight test isnt really worth anything anymore.

And just for fun I just counted on a original EK ribbon I have, and guess what... 39 (or 13 per cm if you prefer that).
