    Is this a Souval EKII?

    Hello,

I am correct is assuming this EKII on E Stand is a Souval? I thought so possibly because of the birds foot on the frame.

    Thanks!

Thanks William, the 3 does not dip so I think it is. Just wondering what the EKII experts had to say as I don't know much about Souvals

        Hi William,

Thanks for your PM. This one is a variant of the "Stuttgart Fake" that does indeed look like a Souval. On close inspection you will see that both frame and core are different.

Aaron, where did you hear that Souvals without dipping 3s are wartime pieces? I'm always (always) interested to learn about Souvals (even if this isn't one).

Streptile, Good information! I meant that a dipping 3 was a sign of a post war Souval. From what I have learned War time Souvals did not have a dipping 3 . I had heard of the Stuggart Fakes but never really seen one so now I know how to identify one!

I'm lost now, a dipping 3 is postwar?

I had a EKII that turned out to be a postwar Souval, it had an Orth frame and a Souval core with the dipping 3. It was discussed here, let me get the link for you.

                  I'm a bit lost too.

I've never read any rule about dipping 3s in Souval EK1 or EK2 cores (postwar, wartime) that was stated and supported with any evidence, and I didn't see one in that link. Also I didn't see anything about an Orth frame in that other thread.

The cross shown in this thread is not a Souval, that much I know.
                  Best regards,

I'm starting to confuse myself as well (That's what happens when you are at work and on WAF )

I posted the same question about my cross on German Combat Awards and that's where I was told it looked like an Orth frame, not here. Sorry for the confusion. I went back and looked through the Souval thread and I read in there about a Knights Cross with the dipping 3 that was postwar. I think that's what I had in my head. Anyways sorry for mixing everyone up!
