Forgive me as I have absolutely no knowledge of these but a guy has offered to sell this to me so I thought I would find out if this was real.

Looks like an original Zimmerman to me, but looks as though it has taken a beating, missing 'c' catch at the rear and big dent at the top of the wreath, -certainly a piece with character.

Thank you both for the information but when I asked him to shoot me a price he said "I have seen these go for $2,500 to $3,000" so it looks like I will not be getting this.

I would say $1600 with a missing catch.You can get a good complete one for $2500.
