    iron cross for kriegsmarine?

hey, can somebody help me? I've been offered this World War 2 iron cross first class, but i'm a bit sceptical if it's real or not. He says that it has a copper core, preventing it to rust like the normal iron cores do. Is there something like a copper core iron cross, or is he making everything up to sell me a fake?

He asks 112 dollars for it.

I have no personal knowledge of a copper core EK but there were certainly brass core crosses. The story has been around for as long as I can remember that these were "navy crosses" because they did not rust but I know of no documentation evidence that this is the reason that they were created and there have certainly been brass core crosses that have shown up in non navy vets groupings. To me the cross looks good but I do not claim to be an EK expert and the second set of pics I cannot open. My suggestion is to post this in the crosses section to get real expert opinion.

Hello, First of all the condition is terrible ! I would never pay this amount for such a cross. Second, this "Story" and that is all it is, about these being for Navy & the rust stuff is all made up ! I would pass on the whole offer. Some crosses were made with non-magnetic cores. Tom

Fully agree, non-magnetic cores were just made by some makers until it was forbidden by certain regulations. It has nothing to do with Navy and rust.
            Cheers,

thank you, that helped me alot. I didn't really believe him either, because i couldn't find any info on it online (don't have a book at the moment) and you're right that it has a lot of damaged, and is probably not worth it (he said it was worth more). I probably won't buy anything from him in the future. Thank you guys for the great help, i really appreciate it.

Save your money on this and don´t buy.
But if I was a KM guy back then and knew about brass core EKI I maybe have bought one just because I know it don´t rust.
