      Hello,

When I first looked at this Spange, I was doubtful. The detail on the front appeared soft and the picture of the reverse gave me the impression of a casting. However, I also noted many positive attributes about the Spange in question.

After seeing Jon's opinion and then taking a second look at the photos, I now concur with his opinion. I think any lack of detail is just due to wear and maybe it was just the pictures that threw me off.

I also compared it to a Deumer Spange in my collection and it does compare favorably. I am posting my example for comparison purposes. This piece is in mint condition, so the detail appears more crisp.

      Best regards,
      Tom

It would also be helpful if we could see some oblique views of the reverse, which will show the hardware better as well as the thickness of the clasp.

As I stated above, I do believe your Spange is a good one, but there are some pretty good copies of Deumer Spangen that are way too thick.

So if you can post a picture or two like the ones below, it would really be of help.

        Thank you & best regards,
        Tom

Thanks. Here are the photos. I don't have micro on my camera so close up photo is never clear/sharp.

Thank you for posting the additional photos. The Spange looks good. An original showing a good bit of use.

            Best regards,

              Hi D.

I like it too and what I find special about your clasp is that it seems to be made of nickel silver instead of tombac otherwise with that kind of wear a tombac badge would look very coppery by now. I've attached a pict of an unmarked nickel silver 2nd class clasp that has also lost most of its chest feathers' detail to wear like yours and yet there is no typical tombac coppery colour where the wear has occured

              Regards

              JC

Thanks guys. It's good to know this is a good one. I bought a collection of militaria at a fixed price to help a friend out. One third of awards/badges are fakes. Cheap items are normally safe but there are so many fakes around. It really puts me off. D

Thank you for the kind words Tom! I also have a good matched set of tombac Deumer clasps but this one always looked special to me because of the metal, the more "3 dimentional" look and the fairly different eagle's head design when compared to its tombac equivalent. I hope I can match it to a 1st class and a prinzen with the same "look" some day

                    Take care

                    JC
