    DKiG Deschler with 14 rivets

I was asked to put this cross for discussion. Imo it's an original 6-rivets early Deschler with modern "upgrade".

    P.S. sorry - it's DKiS of course!

      hallo!
i comparison with the same 6 rivet piece. everithing ok.
the other 8 rivet loks like the same matirial as the plate.
      maybe with no funktion(decor)?
i see the high quality with 6 rivets and i think you need not 8 rivets more.

I'm not an expert but the 6 rivets look different (material, production and patina) form the other 8 rivets......

Don't know why or when for the additional 8 rivets, but that DGS surely started off life with only 6 rivets. Nice early, heavy piece with the short pin.

            Very Nice!

Great looking early DKiS. Maybe he had someone Bolster it from ever coming loose?
The added 8 rivets does leave one wonder as to why?

The question is - how it was possible to add these 8 rivets? Imo it's unreal without disassembly of the cross. But the original 6 rivets look untouched...

I think it is all original. Look at the colouration of the rivets...the 6 rivets that look as if they are blued or darkened probably hold on the sunburst and the other silver rivets hold the rest of the assembly. Probably they made a few like this and then came up with a new method that required fewer rivets, each time refining the process/assembly until eventually ending with the 4 rivet type.

Strange that the rivets are of a different shape and size...

I agree, its odd that they look different.

It wouldn't be hard at all to drill a little hole at each location of new rivet and glue in a little rivet cap which look like original Deschler rivets. I would want to look very close at each of these rivets and see if there is any sign of drilling or glue-seepage. In any event, and interesting piece that I would love to handle in hand.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

Actually, I don't think they are different size and shape, at least not from the pics posted in the thread , unless you are referring to others pics?

I think it is an illusion because of the colour difference.

The rivets with a patina are where they're supposed to be on an original 6 rivet Deschler. The additional 8, without patina, look smoother, more symmetrical, and have a chamfered edge near the bottom?? See attached...

Another closer look on that chamfered edge...

in my opinion it 's a repair, then on front I see some traces around the swaz arms.

Hi Fab. Could you please post a picture, with arrows, to show what, if any repair, you are eluding to. Thank you.
