What are some of the things to look for when determining this is a fake?

The one thing I see is that the numeral 1 is not right.

            There must be more?

Maybe the splints on the reverse are different than an authentic piece.

              Hi Wayne
I bought the same identical bird a few years back and I was able to return it for a refund. On mine the clips were very long and very sturdy. I had to bend them open because there was a mark under the lower clips I couldnt make out and it turned out to be a "0" !. They have probably become smarter since and are using a (or many) credible mark and possibly changed the mounting hardware but to me the front detail is identical

              Regards

              JC
