    German Cross in Gold "20"

    Hi!

This DK has seen very hard times, it once belonged to a paratrooper of FJR 3.

    Kind regards, Peter

            Nice and really used DK.

Sometimes I feel it is more difficult to get a worn one than a minty piece.

What happened to the rest of the awards / insignia?

That's true, Markus! But I think, many of the holders had 2 crosses and kept one safely at home.

You can see one of Danzer's EK I some postings before this one (the "15").
I have most parts of his estate (badges, docs). Eric Queen has some very good portrait-photos, some can be seen in his and Masons book "Fallschirmjäger in portrait".

              Kind regards, Peter

                Hi Peter,

Oh I see. Also nice EK 1.

Where you able to talk Danzer outof the pieces yourself ?

                Cheers,
                Markus

                  Hi again, Markus!

                  In short words:
Danzer sold his awards and docs as well as some pics and his FJR 1 cufftitle to a small local dealer in 1984 or 1985. He told him that his family would through everything away in case of his death and he meant, if anyone would give money for his items, this will never happen. I was there quite accidentally and after the was gone bought everything except the cufftitle. Unfortunately the dealer sold it to another collector. I was a young guy at that time and didn't have the courage to call Danzer personnally. Later on I bitterly regretted this but it was too late.

                  Kind regards, Peter

Oh, I know those chances gone by...tell me about it...been there, felt that...

In 1984 btw I was 8 years old.

I missed the "good ol' days" all together and started collecting beginning 2000's when the real good stuff was already long gone...

                    Cheers,
                    Markus

Yes, Markus and that unfortunately was not the only chance that I let go...

Starting a "3R"-Collection in 2000? You have my admiration... On the other hand I have to say that a site like this one would have made collecting MUCH easier than it was in the 80s. I love to be a member here.

Greg: Many thanks for Your comment!

                        Kind regards, Peter
