    Comparaison between EK2 cores 333 and 122

    Hi,
A subject treated many times, but here is pictures of a 122 and a 333. In my mind the cores are the same. The 333 have just a thickest coat of paint. What are yours minds about that?

      I agree with Plaut.

The differenties can't be explained by the thickness of the paint alone.

Very interesting observation! They are close.

It would be great if someone could show really good, flat scans of both sides of both cores -- these photos are good, but not really good enough to do the kind of close comparison needed.

By the way, on first glance the frames look close to me also.
          Best regards,
          Streptile

            Hi,
            Not Alone!!!
It's a mathematic reflection. The 122 maker was from Strasbourg, the 333 crosses have been found in Strasbourg in the 70s. I've read in many french forums that the 333 are possibly post war reassembly with parts of an official maker. The only makers in Strasbourg are 122 and 123 but I have no 123 to compare.
If someone have a 333 and a 123 it would be nice to look on both.
That's the best pictures I can do,

IMO, they are not the same - frames or cores. The distinctive 'teeth' found on the 333 are not on the 122, and the die flaws found on the 122 are not on the 333.
The core of the 333 has different date styles too - particularly the 1813 date with the missing chunk from the top of the second '1' and the sloping top of the '3'.
This 333 core has been found in other fakes too.

              Regards - Danny

Thank you for this intersessant answer and the good pictures of the 123
You're right the second 1 of the 1813 is typic on the 333.
What is your mind about the 333?

I take this post to ask:

this is in Strasbourg France or in strassburg in Austria?

we have evidence that factorys (122 and 123) was in France?

Yes Strassburg in Deutch means Strasbourg in French, there were two Iron Cross manufacturers in Elsass. That's why this comparaison.

I have seen on this forum that Strassburg was not our Strasbourg (France) but strassburg in Austria.

                        nobody has evidence ?

                          Hi all,
I never heard that before. Jean Jacques Stahl makes more french than Austrian...

Anybody have informations about the 333 crosses? Clearly It's not the cores of the 122 or the 123 (with the help of danny70)
The question is : what is the interrest to do quality crosses and to stamp these with a bad number? Non marked these crosses were certainely good for all.

                          Regards

All the EK Crosses are made on Germany territory or in German annexion land. No one of this crosses was made in captured territory.

Why the choise to made only in France and not In Italy or Grrece or Nederland ??

Many many people confuse Strassburg (Austria) with Strasbourg (France).
