Iron Cross 2nd Class For Review

    Good Evening,

Today I purchased a EKII and I would like to submit this award to the knowledgeable folks on this forum for review.

The cross is magnetic, does not have any markings that I can find, measures 44.59mm tall x 44.34mm wide. I did not find any markings on the suspension ring. The medal weighs 20 grams with ring. Ring measures 14.72mm (OD). Ring thickness measures 001.56mm .

I would appreciate any opinions as to its authenticity.

    Thank you for your time.

    Bill

Is it just me, or does the core look like it has been re-painted?

But it is indeed a Souval cross.

I was wondering about that ... a scanner was used to make the picture ,,, hard to say .

          Thank you for the feedback.

I did use a scanner to provide the photograph. The black field of the metal does not have a gloss finish - it is more of a satin finish. I'll take a regular photo and post it later today.

          Thanks again.

              Thank you Andy.

Could any of you recommend the best reference book(s) on identifying and describing what to look for when examining an Iron Cross for authenticity, the different manufactures, etc.?

Thank you very much for your help and assistance.

Here are two pics taken with a camera instead of a scanner and ribbon removed.

The flat fields on the front and back have what looks like dust imbedded with the paint as if someone didn't properly prepare the medal for painting.

Thanks again for taking the time and effort in assisting me.

Still looks like a repainted cross, I think.
But it sure does look like a Souval.
