Greetings folks,
I joined some time ago and have lurked on this site but for one post that I made to help someone with a question they had. Today I am going to display my ignorance but hopefully in doing so I can obtain enough advice/help to keep from getting myself ripped off.
The bottom line is that I am a photographer on a mission to create some images that make a 9mm luger and a K98 look good ...
When I do static shots of items I like to dress up the photo a bit with AUTHENTIC items. Years ago I did a large website on the M1 Garand rifle and used mostly American WWII items to dress up the shots.
Now it is tiime to tackle a smaller similar project with some axis items.
So here is my predicament. I would like to acquire an authentic Iron Cross. It appears that the budget will allow me only to go for an EK2. I'd probably prefer something else but I have to keep this well under 100 dollars if I can.
In addition to the cross itself I'd love to have some ancillary items to go with it which are related to the EK. A ribbon of course, perhaps an envelope, or if at all possible some sort of paperwork that perhaps was part of the German paper trail for the cross.
I DO plan on keeping the item for my own collection when the photos are done as I have always thought that owning something of this nature would be very cool on a historic level and I have inlaws who were soldiers in the German army. (sadly their decorations are long gone...)
As for the condition of the cross... I am not looking for 'new in box' quality.. To go with the items it will be photographed with it should be in decent, but not perfect condition.
I'm seeking advice on how to go about finding an Iron cross without finding myself stuck with a modern-made fake piece of tin from China.
Any input would be appreciated.
I do see that there is a sales forum on this site and I am wondering if generally those who sell there are pretty up-and up (yea I know - loaded question) and if it is appropriate to ask people's opinions here on this forum about items that appear in the for sale section.
Truly though, any advice with regard to buying strategies for this EK newbie would be greatly appreciated.
