It is a Souval EKII, but I recommend referring you back to the discussion on Souval EKIs so get ready to destroy this one too.

Dennis, what means bad for you ? if bad = fake the answer is good but I doubt it's a wartime EKII.

If I understand you right you are saying that this cross is a fake post war copy..........right.I bought it from a fellow collector on e stand and NOW I am stuck with this low level piece of JUNK.

For me it's good. I have had around 3000-4000 iron crosses. Bought from numerous of different sources in Germany. All from private hands. Souval has come together with standard crosses, from families, from groups etc etc. There is no way that just the Souval crosses would be post war creations added after that war.

Somehow this discussion got off the rails. No one has made this claim.

This, I believe , is a wartime produced Souval EK 2 for the following reasons

It has the die flaw on the top left beading
It appears that the reverse side of the ribbon ring is not soldered to the frame
It has the distinct crows feet on the corners of the beading .

I would keep this in my collection or sell it as an original . Cheers Vic

I would love to see some evidence that these characteristics are specific to wartime Souvals, but as far as I have been able to determine, it's simply collector lore.

The only thing I rely on when judging a Souval EK2 is the core type and, when in hand, the quality.
                          Best regards,

Hi, the reason I posted these characteristics is because they appear on my '98' ring marked Souval EK 2 . But you are correct - it does not mean the cross is 100% wartime made as the medal in question could be postwar made using pre 45 dies . I guess Souvals are always going to tainted with suspicion . Cheers .
