Thanks, Trevor! Looks like a nice piece (but I wish people didn't feel compelled to clean and polish everything).

I agree Leroy, but I also have to admit that with all the aging cleaned away, this is the first time I've ever seen the details on a 3/4 so clearly. I've not thought much of these until now. I've not liked the shape of the numbers as I've never seen them as clearly as I can on this. This is a beautiful cross. Mind you, now that I have had a clearer look it would be nice to be able to put all the great patina/ age back on it. Anyway, someone will be very happy.

The best of both worlds. (The toned one belongs to 'Wolfeknives' in the database.)

Many thanks. Now that I know what's there, that's a sweet cross.

This one reminds me of the piece on Hermann Historica table last weekend @ SOS. Very clean, no loop or ribbon. BTW, the wolfknives piece would be my pick.

Don't forget Timmler's 3/4 given to Thiem. Interesting is that it was QUITE worn and wartime photos show the natural wear.

Herr Timmler has also done some work to name 3/4 loop recipients.

Brian thanks for that. Great reading. I agree, they are underrated. The one that begins the thread reveals their original beauty even though the naturally aged look is better
