    Hi mike,

It was awarded to the Spanish Cross in Gold winners.

I believe some SC in silver (with swords) awardees also received the Spanish War Cross, no?

          Hi Scott,

I based my answer of SCiG for two reasons.

          1. Read post 102 of this link by ADOLPH.

          http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...n+medal&page=7

          2. I have a document grouping of a SCiG winner who also was awarded the "La Cruz de Guerra" or The Spanish War Cross (Kriegkreuz).

I also remember reading this somewhere. I'll search through my books when I get some time. However, I can't say 100% that not one SCiS winner didn't get it also. I just haven't seen any proof of this yet.

It does however make sense that the Spanish Campaign Medal was given to all Bronze winners, the red Military Service Cross to silver winners and The War Cross to Gold winners.

Perhaps Jaques or anyone else can shed some light on this.

          Regards,

              Hi Sal,

I've found the source of my info.

Page 225 of Roger Bender's book, "Uniforms, Organization and History Legion Condor."

For those who don't have it, it gives the breakdown of the SC in Bronze, Silver,Gold and Diamonds. Then it states that the four grades of the Spanish military awards were given to the recipients of the four corresponding German Spanish crosses. ie. SCiB received the Campaign Medal etc. etc.

However, Roger seems to contradict himself because on page 227 is a document stating that a DR. Heinrich Neumann is to receive the German Spanish Cross in Silver with Swords AND the Cruz de Guerra.

Its the first time I've looked at the document and I've had the book for 5 years. It's the only one I've come across and believe me I have looked at many SC groupings over many years. Could it be a one off? Doubt it but imo it would be a rare occasion.

So to Scott and Sal, Yes, you are correct. And to Mike, I amend my first post and say that it's MAINLY awarded to SCiG winners.

              Thanks for your time gents.

              Regards,
              AB.

Thanks to all for the additional comprehensive information.

I'd like to acquire an appropriate SC and would rather be paying for a silver !!
