    KVK-1st Question

I picked up this KVK-1st. Iis there any way to identify the maker ? I don't see any numbers or markings on the badge or pin. Also, it is a grey/black color, does that indicated it has lost all it's finish, or did it just go to patina? It is not magnetic so I was also wondering if I put some vaseline on it for a while whether that would help it.

    Thanks
    Pat

    Hi Pat!
The maker is S&L and it is a zinc type. I think the zinc "eats" the silver plating it does not fall of, let it be as it is and put on little "Ballistol oil" to protect it. I think this is a very nice cross.

    Best regards

        Thanks Marcie,

Does anyone have any thoughts of whether my KVK-1st would be a good candidate for coating in vaseline for a few days ? I have seen others do this with great affect, but not sure if this medal is the sort that would respond to it.

        Thanks

Sorry Martin, I missed your response earlier. Thanks for the suggestion. I had to research what Ballistol oil was since I wasn't familiar with it. Turns out there is a hardware store about 20 miles from my home that carries it. I will have to try it on my guns as well.

          Regards,
          Pat
