Fake Silver War Merit Cross 2nd class without pin-back?

    Hi,

I found these two up for sale. However I notice that that the cross is silver (1st class) but instead of pin-back it has a loop for a ribbon. Please correct me if I'm wrong but If it is 2nd class it shouldn't be silver, and if it's 1st class it should be pin-back. Or am I missing something?

Also the war merrit medal ribbon doesn't look correct either according to wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:K...stmedaille.JPG

Thoughts? Thanks for helping a beginner out.

    Welcome :
On the left you have a late war - Zink - not silver - KvK with Swords with ribbon( not sure if ribbon is period)
On the right you have a KvK Medal . It should have the same ribbon as on the left . Ribbon with the Medal it is - wrong ! ...do not know what it belongs to ?

As Douglas said its a zink 2:nd class KVK with what looks to be a good ribbon.
But the KVM should not have the same ribbon, the KVM ribbon has a red line in it, like this:

Both medals are in not so good condition and the KVK is missing the ribbon ring and the KVM is missing a ribbon so I wouldent bid to much on them.

Douglas is right on the KVK, but the KVK-medal does NOT have the same ribbon as the KVK itself, because it has a small red stripe in the center.

        Kind regards, Peter

Thanks for all the info and help guys! Nice spot regarding the missing ring!

Does that mean that it was produced with a thin bronzed-cover and that it has now worn off to only shows the underlaying zink?

yes but not worn off, the zink pieces are known to absorb the bronze finish
